St Luke's College Shaves for a Cause, Raising Over $26,000 for Leukaemia Foundation
Karratha, WA – June 2026
St Luke's College made history on Wednesday, 3 June, hosting its first-ever World's Greatest Shave event and raising an incredible $26,000+ for the Leukaemia Foundation while bringing the community together in support of Australians impacted by blood cancer.
The event was organised and led by the College's dedicated Student Executive Leadership Team alongside Miss Schnell, with an overwhelming response from both students and staff. A total of 20 students and 9 staff members bravely volunteered to shave their heads or cut their hair, demonstrating remarkable courage and commitment to raising awareness and vital funds for those affected by leukaemia and other cancers.
The atmosphere throughout the day was one of excitement, generosity and community spirit as participants took to the stage to make a visible difference for an important cause. Alongside financial donations, several participants also donated their hair, contributing to support initiatives for cancer patients.
The College community rallied behind the event, with families, friends, local businesses and community members contributing to fundraising efforts. Donations made through the official fundraising platform, combined with additional funds raised during the event, saw the total exceed $26,000 – a remarkable achievement for the College's inaugural participation in the campaign.
Principal and staff members praised the leadership and dedication shown by students in bringing the event to life, highlighting the compassion and service that underpin the College's values.
The success of the event was made possible through the generous support of local volunteers who donated their time and expertise. Special thanks were extended to Beth Barnes from North Regional TAFE , Renae Ozies from Clip & Cruise Barbershop , and Hayley O'Connor from Pilbara Kid , whose professional hairdressing skills ensured every participant looked their best while supporting the cause.
St Luke's College also expressed its sincere gratitude to all students, staff, families, sponsors and community members who contributed to the fundraiser.
The inaugural World's Greatest Shave event not only raised significant funds for cancer research and support services but also demonstrated the power of a community coming together to create meaningful change. The College is incredibly proud of every participant who stepped forward to make a difference and support Australians facing blood cancer.
With such an outstanding result in its first year, the event has set a high benchmark for future fundraising initiatives at St Luke's College.
