St Luke's College Marks Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday with Community Celebrations
The community of St Luke's College came together this week to mark two significant dates in the Christian calendar: Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.
Shrove Tuesday, observed on the day before Ash Wednesday, signals the beginning of Lent — a 40-day period of prayer, reflection and preparation for Easter. Festivities at the College began with a morning gathering coordinated by the Religion Department, bringing together students, staff and families. Attendees enjoyed coffee served by The Saintly Brew, helping to create a warm and welcoming start to the day.
The following day, the College community gathered once again to observe Ash Wednesday, which formally marks the beginning of Lent in the Catholic tradition. A special Mass was held on campus, where students and staff received ashes on their foreheads. The ashes symbolise human frailty and the call to repentance, inviting the faithful to seek forgiveness and renewal during the Lenten season.
The Mass also provided an opportunity to recognise student leadership within the College. Year 12 students were presented with their blessed badges as House Captains for 2025, while Year 10 students received badges acknowledging their roles as Peer Support Mentors. The presentations highlighted the important contribution these students will make to the College community in the year ahead.
Fr Dominic and Fr Gerard led the liturgy, guiding the community in prayer and reflection as they began the Lenten journey with faith and purpose.
The two-day observance reflected the strong sense of faith and community at St Luke's College, bringing students, staff and families together in celebration and reflection.
