🌱 Growing a Sustainable Future at St Luke's! 🌱
We're incredibly proud to share a meaningful initiative that has taken root at St Luke's—one that blends sustainability, student learning, and strong community spirit into something truly inspiring.
This term, our STEM Academic Excellence students have been working hard on a hands-on sustainability project designed to benefit both the environment and our school community. What started as an empty space is now blossoming into a thriving garden full of herbs and vegetables—thanks to the generosity, support, and dedication of many people.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the following contributors who made this transformation possible:
Handy Hands – for donating all of the beautiful herbs and vegetables now growing in our garden. Your contribution is not only helping our students learn about horticulture, but also providing fresh ingredients for our Food Technology classes.
Norwest Sand and Gravel – with special thanks to Nathan – for supplying the rich soil that our plants are thriving in. Your support helped create a strong foundation—literally and figuratively—for this project to grow.
7-Mile Waste Facility – especially Heidi – for donating valuable building materials and for your helpful, collaborative spirit. With your contribution, we've been able to build the structures needed to support this growing space, all while using recycled resources.
Every element of this project has been developed with sustainability at its heart. The garden was built entirely from recycled and scrap materials, creatively repurposed by our students and staff into something purposeful and productive.
Special recognition goes to Mr James Newcombe, who has been instrumental in preparing and clearing the space, ensuring that our students had a safe and functional area to begin their planting journey.
And a very big thank you to our incredible groundskeeper, Mr Sam Hoy, for your consistent support, hard work, and guidance throughout the term. Your efforts behind the scenes have not gone unnoticed!
This project is more than just a garden—it's a symbol of what can happen when community, creativity, and care come together. It provides a real-life, outdoor learning experience for our STEM students, who will now supply fresh produce to the Food Technology department. The garden is also a key step toward establishing a student-led sustainability team, where recycling, responsibility, and regeneration will be at the core of future initiatives.
After months of preparation, the STEM students are now finally planting, and it's been such a joy to see their excitement as they begin this new phase of the journey. 🌱💚
We're grateful to everyone who contributed time, materials, or encouragement to bring this vision to life. This is just the beginning—and we can't wait to see how this project continues to grow in the hands of our young changemakers.
