St. Luke's College has begun the year with a vibrant celebration of Catholic traditions, bringing together students, staff, and families to reflect on faith and embrace new leadership roles within the community.
Opening Mass: A Celebration of Faith and Leadership
In Week 3, the college held its Opening Mass, attended by over 570 students and staff. The Mass was a beautiful occasion that not only celebrated the start of the academic year but also highlighted the importance of faith in the school community. A special moment during the Mass was the presentation of badges to the House Captains. These student leaders were formally recognized for their roles, symbolizing the responsibility they carry throughout the year in fostering house spirit and community.
The liturgy was a moving experience, reminding everyone of the importance of unity, service, and faith. It was a time for the community to come together, reflect, and prepare for the year ahead with a shared sense of purpose.
Shrove Tuesday: A Pancake Breakfast to Start the Year Right
The college also celebrated Shrove Tuesday with a pancake breakfast in the Nickol area, where students, staff, and even family members came together for a morning of fun and fellowship. The breakfast was a perfect way to mark the end of the pre-Lenten period with good food and good company.
A huge thank you goes to The Saintly Brew, who provided coffee for attendees, ensuring that the morning started off with warmth and energy. Alun from Altra Fine Foods also generously helped out by assisting The Saintly Brew, ensuring the community was well taken care of. The event was a joyful occasion, with the St. Luke's College community bonding over pancakes and coffee in preparation for the season of Lent.
Ash Wednesday: A Solemn Reflection to Begin Lent
On Ash Wednesday, the college held a whole-school Mass, marking the beginning of the Lenten season with a solemn service. During the Mass, students and staff received ashes on their foreheads as a symbol of repentance and reflection, aligning with the themes of Lent.
A heartfelt thank you to Fr. Tai, who led the Mass in the school gym, making it a meaningful and reflective experience for the entire school. The Ash Wednesday service allowed the St. Luke's community to reflect on the importance of sacrifice, prayer, and penance, preparing their hearts for the journey through Lent.
