Day 1
The Year Twelve retreat this year was based around the theme of Social Justice-Where do you stand?
Students travelled out to Dampier where they participated in several different activities. One of the first activities, and an activity that is an emotional part of the retreat was receiving the letters that parents wrote for them. Students took the time to read the letters which I am sure lifted their spirits.
We watched the Oasis documentary about youth homelessness, celebrated Mass with Fr Domenic and then had a visit from Salvation Army Community Service & Social Coordinator Danielle Black and Jodie Jones (Captain). Jodie and Danielle spoke about several topics including homelessness here in the Pilbara and services available for young people. The day went very quickly and before we knew it, it was time to return to school to get ready for the overnight sleep out in the spirit of homelessness. The night was spent with the students cooking a meal for them all to share, having a fun and entertaining quiz night where students dressed up with different themes. We had the Barbie table, the biker boys and girl, the cringey tourists, Adam Sandler table and the bogans. We all enjoyed the quiz with lots of laughter and banter. The night was uneventful and students were up early for the second day of the retreat which was run by their house coordinators.
Day 2
Day Two of retreat was designed by the House CO's with the theme of 'Thriving after high school'. After a delicious bacon and egg breakfast, students split in to boys and girls and had the opportunity to learn from their house cos life experiences via a panel discussion Q&A. We enjoyed morning tea together before competing in a cooking challenge! Students were given the challenge to make the most delicious meal possible with the little ingredients they might find in their cupboard. They then competed in a relay of life challenge, seeing them wash windows, sow buttons, fill out forms and peel potatoes.
The final activity of the day was the highlight, competing in a capture the flag colour run! Students were given white shirts now covered in colour to sign and keep as a momento of high school. We finished the day with ice creams and reflections, what a day!
