St Luke's College Inter-House Swimming Carnival 2024

It was an extremely steamy, humid morning on Friday 8th March as students, staff and spectators arrived at the Karratha Leisureplex for what was a massive day of fierce competition.

Looking out across the pool was a sea of colour, and excitement was in the air as House Coordinators and students busily decorated houses, dressed up, and marked off attendance to prepare for the day ahead. Reilly and Maka opened introductions with Acknowledgement of Country and Prayer before Harding started us off with House Chants. Each house belted out their war cries but the first victory went to Maitland House. Then the real competition began as our first competitors took to the blocks and Freestyle events commenced.

Competitors battled it out in the stifling heat with little to no wind to cool off conditions, and little reprieve offered with the warm pool temperature. The day ran mostly behind schedule, with a slight underestimation of timing considering the increased number of competitors this year, but still managed to claw the way back before the day was out.  Students swam, cheered and supported their houses as races were won, records were broken, and everyone went home exhausted. Well done to all students who participated in the day, swam to represent their houses or volunteered in ways to help the day run smoothly. Thank you to everyone who took part in the day, our glorious parent helpers and staff, and those responsible for making the carnival so successful.

We would like to make a special mention to one of our budding young superstars, Jack Cawthray from Fortescue, who swam up an age-group in the Butterfly event instead of his own age division, knowing it would help his team but make it impossible for him to take home an individual medal. Well done Jack!
