STEM Fun with Scitech
Scitech Challenge Days provide students with an opportunity to represent their school in a friendly competition where they use their 21st Century skills to solve a real-world problem.
On Friday 16th June, Scitech visited St Luke's and the Follow the Dream & Year 8 STEM students took part in the bucket challenge. They had to build a stand to hold a container that was required to hold weights. The more weights the better! However, there were limitations... They were only able to use the resources provided to them. The students organised themselves into groups and set off on the challenge.
Once students were beginning to reach the completion stage of their projects, the environment changed, with rising tides now needing to be accounted for and along with it, time constraints. The challenge was that the bucket had to stand 20cm above the highest tide. Whilst stressful to observe, the students took it each challenge in their stride and remained in control.
The Follow the Dream students; Jakeile, Sadie, Aaliyah and Phoenix were the MVP's whose project could withstand the changes & hold the most weight. The runners up team were Nate, Benjamin, Zavian and Myles (mixture of Follow the Dream and STEM students).
A great morning was had by all, with all participants rising to the challenge!
