Turtle Monitoring Program
This term our STEM Academy students had the opportunity to get involved with the West Pilbara Turtle Program. They learnt about the biology, behaviour and life cycle of marine turtles that nest in our region, before heading out in the field to collect data for conservation scientists. Our Year 7 students went out to Cleaverville for a morning turtle track tour to see what we can learn from the tracks left behind by the turtles that nested the night before. Our Year 8 and 9 students went to Wickham for an afternoon turtle nesting tour to watch the nesting process and were lucky enough to see three turtles nest. Thank you to Sarah McDonald from the West Pilbara Turtle Program for the opportunity that you provided for our students, and to the Karratha Education Initiative for helping fund the experiences.
