Year 9 Santos Science Experience

Year 9 students were given the opportunity to participate in the Santos Science Experience yesterday. This initiative allows University graduates and lecturers from Curtin University and Edith Cowan University to come to the Pilbara and promote the Sciences at their respective Universities.

– Students participated in projects to design and construct a structure to maintain life in times of flood, using engineering principles. Our students were able to design a structure that held more weight than they had seen before and held more weight than their own structure.

– Produce alginate balls that were able to break down the lactose in milk so that lactose intolerant people could consume the milk.

– Cyber-security and cyphers to maintain security of their personal documents.

Some students remained behind after school to spend a couple of extra hours working on coding micro-bits with a cyber security student from Edith Cowan University.

Thanks must go to Santos for sponsoring such a fantastic opportunity for the students of St Luke's, and to the staff from Edith Cowan and Curtin University.
