Year 9 Career Taster Program
This year, we introduced the Year 9 Career Taster Program. The program is aimed at providing career conversations, exploring future opportunities, and exposing students to various industry areas. This is an exciting time for young people to make their mark on the world; the world of work is changing and there are many opportunities to explore.
The Year 9 Career Taster Program (CTP) aims to encourage and inspire school students about potential career and further study opportunities. Key stakeholders in the development of the program include the Department of Training and Workforce Development, TAFE colleges, Department of Education, Independent sector, and Catholic Education.
We had such a great response from Year 9 students expressing their interest in attending some of the CTP programs on offer through North Regional TAFE. Programs included: Civil Construction, Automotive, Visual Arts, Hospitality/Barista, Mechanical Engineering, High Risk/White Card, Community Services, Individual Support, Conservation Ecological Management/Rangers, Logistics, Beauty/Hair, Fitness and Horticulture.
Students were very engaging and curious; TAFE lecturers enjoyed the students’ curiosity and questions. Our Year 9 students will be attending the North Regional TAFE Open Day on Tuesday, 19 July, where students will be exposed to all the industry specific areas – especially students who were unable to attend more than one of the programs this term.
